Mladen Nakić (1962) was born in Zagreb, Croatia. He has been working as a senior political analyst at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration since 2006. His previous work includes serving as Defense, Army, Naval and Air Attaché in the United States and Canada. Before Foreign Service he was Head of Department for Foreign Military Attaches and Head of Bilateral Department in MOD. His last military assignment was as Director of Croatian Arms Control Center. He left military as a brigadier and continue his civilian career as a diplomat at MFA.

He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and National Security Affairs from the University of Zagreb and B.A. and M.A. degrees in Political Science. He gained a scientific position - Research Associate at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb. He has published a number of articles and publications in the area of foreign policy, regional security (The Balkans), NATO, global strategy and diplomacy.

Mladen served in the Croatian Army from 1991 to 2005 and is a combat veteran. He was awarded the Homeland War Decoration 1990/92, Memorial of National Thanksgiving for the 5 and 10 years of perfect service, Order of the Croatian Trefoil and Medal ''Storm''.

He is member of the Board of the Atlantic Council of Croatia, Croatian Association for International Studies (HUMS), Croatian Society of Political Scientists. He was initiator and first Director of George C. Marshall Club Croatia (Alumni). He is also Executive Director of the Center for International Studies. He and his wife Vedrana Filipović, MD reside in Zagreb with their two teenage sons, Marko and Dominik.
